Herbed Mushroom Gravy

INGREDIENTS

Herbed Mushroom Gravy

  • 6 Tbsp. (90 mL) Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 1/2 C. (125 mL) minced onion
  • 1 1/2 C. (375 mL) sliced mushrooms
  • 2/3 C. (157 mL) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 C. (375 mL) chicken broth
  • 1 1/2 C. (375 mL) beef broth
  • 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) chopped fresh rosemary
  • 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) chopped fresh sage
  • 1/2 tsp. (2 mL) salt

DIRECTIONS

  1. Heat shortening in large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and mushrooms. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, or until tender. Stir in flour. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  2. Gradually whisk in chicken and beef broths Add rosemary, sage and salt. Bring to a boil.
  3. Cook and stir for about 3 minutes or until gravy thickens. Add water as needed for desired consistency.
