Fried Mozzarella Sticks

INGREDIENTS

Fried Mozzarella Sticks

  • 10 ounces (300 g) well chilled mozzarella cheese (solid block)
  • 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) milk
  • 1/4 C. (50 mL) all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 C. (175 mL) seasoned fine dry bread crumbs
  • Crisco® Pure Vegetable Oil, for frying

DIRECTIONS

  1. Cut cheese into 2 1/2” x 1/2” (6 cm x 1 cm) sticks.
  2. Place milk in shallow dish.
  3. Dip sticks in milk; coat with flour.
  4. In a separate shallow dish, combine eggs with 1 tsp. (5 mL) oil or milk.
  5. Dip floured cheese sticks in egg mixture; roll in bread crumbs.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  7. In deep-fat fryer or deep saucepan, heat 2″ to 3″ (5 cm to 7.5 cm) of oil to 375ºF (190°C).
  8. Fry several at a time in hot oil for 45 seconds to 1 minute, or until golden brown and sticks float to top.
  9. Drain on paper towels. Serve immediately with pizza sauce.
