Beef and Bean Sprout Stir-Fry

INGREDIENTS

Beef and Bean Sprout Stir-Fry

  • Beef and Marinade
  • 1 large egg white, lightly beaten
  • 2 tsp. (10 mL) soy sauce
  • 1 tsp. (5 mL) cornstarch
  • 1/8 tsp. (1 mL) ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp. (1 mL) garlic powder
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 lb (500 g) boneless beef sirloin, cut into thin strips
  • Sauce
  • 1/2 C. (125 mL) water
  • 1 Tbsp. (15 mL) oyster sauce (optional)
  • 2 tsp. (10 mL) soy sauce
  • 2 tsp. (10 mL) cornstarch
  • Vegetables
  • 1/4 C. (50 mL) Crisco® Pure Vegetable Oil, divided
  • 1 C. (250 mL) sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 2 C. (500 mL) fresh bean sprouts
  • 1/2 C. (125 mL) green onion slices
  • 1/2 C. (125 mL) sliced water chestnuts
  • hot cooked rice

DIRECTIONS

  1. Beef and Marinade: In a bowl, combine egg white, soy sauce, cornstarch, ginger, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Add beef. Stir to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Sauce: In a small bowl, combine cold water, oyster sauce, remaining soy sauce, and cornstarch. Mix well. Set aside.
  3. Heat 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) of vegetable oil in large skillet. Add beef mixture. Stir-fry over medium-high heat until beef is browned. Remove mixture from skillet; set aside. Heat remaining 2 Tbsp. (30 mL) of vegetable oil in large skillet. Add mushrooms, bean sprouts, onion and water chestnuts. Stir-fry over medium-high heat for 1 minute. Add cornstarch mixture and beef. Stir-fry until thickened and bubbly, about 1 to 2 minutes. Serve with rice and additional soy sauce, if desired.
