Herbed Green Bean Casserole

INGREDIENTS

Herbed Green Bean Casserole

  • 2 cans green beans, drained
  • 3/4 C. (175 mL) dried bread crumbs
  • 2 tsp. (10 mL) dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp. (2 mL) dried thyme
  • 1 tsp. (5 mL) dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. (5 mL) parsley
  • 1 tsp. (5 mL) garlic powder
  • 1 C. (250 mL) freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp. (2 mL) salt
  • 1/2 tsp. (2 mL) black pepper
  • 1/2 C. (125 mL) Crisco® Pure Canola Oil

DIRECTIONS

  1. Heat oven to 350ºF (175°C).
  2. Drain beans and place in a bowl.
  3. Mix together bread crumbs, basil, thyme, oregano, parsley, garlic powder and cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste. Reserve 2 Tbsp. (15 mL) for topping. Add remaining mixture and oil to green beans.
  4. Place in an ovenproof dish and sprinkle with the reserved crumb mixture. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the top is golden and crispy.
  5. Note: Frozen or blanched, cooled fresh green beans may be used in place of canned green beans. Italian style breadcrumbs with the garlic and Parmesan cheese may be used instead of dried breadcrumbs and herbs.
